I did just that last week on a brief stop in Paris. I met up with the very engaging Felicia who is the writer and photographer behind This Time Now. We met at Merci for tea. Upon her suggestion I opted for the detox tea — lemon-ginger goodness — with the hope of warding off any bugs I may have picked up on my flight from Toronto.

Merci is the right place for a casual get together. Felicia and I talked about living in France — her life in Paris, mine in Nice — and travelling to Morocco (she’s been; I’m dying to go). We talked about Thai food and shopping for shoes in France for ladies like us who wear something larger than a 37. We talked about living in cold-weather countries (Canada, Sweden, Denmark) and about the freedom that comes with riding a bicycle.

After chatting for a few hours it was time to stretch our legs with a stroll through the rest of the store. I immediately gravitated towards the pile of cookbooks by the cash register; Felicia immediately whipped out her camera. I became her target and she was sweet enough to ignore me as I tried to ignore her. I giggled to myself because I generally don’t like being photographed but it was hard to resist Felicia and her camera.

We strolled the store and I ooh-ed and aah-ed over jewellery, flower pots, tableware. So many things caught my eye. I resisted temptation. For now.

Another trip to Merci is planned once the renovations on our apartment are done. I’ll by myself a little present, I think. Just for the pleasure of it.
